Valerie was recently appointed to the position of Secretary on the Board of the St. Louis African American History and Genealogy Society. She previously served on the Board as Historian from 2012 – 2014. Valerie began researching her family about 10 years ago. She has researched her mother’s side back to her 2X great grandfather who she found in the 1880 Alabama census. Valerie is researching the Mississippi counties of Lauderdale, Kemper and Claiborne along with Perry County in Alabama. She is a member of several Facebook genealogy groups, including Our Black Ancestry, Our Black Legacy, Mississippi Genealogy and Alabama Genealogy.
Valerie was born and raised in the City of St. Louis and is a graduate of Vashon High School. She has worked as a secretary for 30 years and is currently employed as a Secretary/Receptionist at a law firm. She was appointed to the administrative staff of Freeman Bosley, Jr., the first African American Mayor of the City of St. Louis. She is an avid reader and loves to travel.
